Councils

The Texas Medical Center facilitates collaboration among member institutions by bringing together individuals with similar experience and expertise. Sometimes, experts meet in ad hoc committees to focus on a single issue. Other times, experts will meet on a regular basis to discuss on-going issues. The following is a list of councils established by the Texas Medical Center that meet on an on-going basis.
 
 

CIO/CMIO Council

(Chief Information Officers/Chief Medical Information Officers)

This council meets to address issues of common interest related to computer information systems, electronic medical records, data centers, and others as identified.

Council of Chief Human Resource Officers

The human resource officers meet to discuss cooperative projects and challenges or to address a specific issue.

This council consists of senior nursing executives of the hospitals and the deans of the nursing schools. Members of the council share information about nursing issues in the Texas Medical Center.

Council of Research Directors

This council is comprised of research directors of Texas Medical Center member institutions. The council fosters inter-institutional interactions of benefit to the member institutions, to the State of Texas, and to the people of the United States. Among other goals, this council will promote institutional and inter-institutional research.

Government Affairs Advisory Council

This council meets to discuss appropriate actions regarding legislative issues which affect Texas Medical Center and the member institutions. Recommendations are then presented to the members of the Government and Public Affairs Committee and Policy Council for approval.

International Affairs Advisory Council

This council is comprised of representatives from Texas Medical Center institutions that coordinate international activities. The council provides a mechanism for Texas Medical Center institutions to retain individual autonomy regarding international programs, while building a collective synergy that strengthens Texas Medical Center’s international position and maximizes existing resources in support of institutional efforts.

This council meets to establish lines of communication among the various security agencies and departments in the Texas Medical Center. Representatives exchange information, ideas and assistance and discuss matters of common concern in the area of security.

This council consists of representatives of staff and faculty of the various educational institutions in the Texas Medical Center along with student representatives from each class of the academic institutions. The council addresses issues of concern to students and plans recreational activities as a group.
